Details of the Specialized TARMAC SL7 SPORT
While aerodynamics were the primary focus when developing the Tarmac, weight was the co-pilot on this journey to the optimal road bike. Previous “aero bikes” always compromised on weight – the more drag you reduced, the more weight you gained. With the Tarmac, the design philosophy was to keep weight at or below the UCI limit without compromising on aerodynamics. Using the FreeFoil Shape Library, tools like isotopic FEA analysis, and the engineering skills of the best engineers in the industry, Specialized has created a frame without sacrificing aerodynamics, stiffness, or ride quality.
In an effort to create the perfect road bike, the Rider-First Engineered™ philosophy was applied to ensure the Tarmac is the most balanced and best-handling Tarmac yet – regardless of size. Using an army of the world’s best test riders from three World Tour teams, Specialized made changes to the Tarmac. They balanced the ride quality between the front and rear wheels so that even the longest days in the saddle remain comfortable – all without sacrificing any of the Tarmac’s legendary handling and race-proven quickness.
The Tarmac builds on the learnings from the Venge and uses simple integration to create a clean cockpit that’s easy to live with. They’ve improved the routing for each configuration while maintaining its aerodynamic properties. These features make the Tarmac easy to use and easy to ride.
