Trek Bikes – quality and innovation combined
Trek, probably the largest bicycle manufacturer in the world, comes from Waterloo in the state of Wisconsin. From the very beginning of the company, the brand stood for exceptional bicycle construction, which is still difficult to surpass today. The numerous successes in road cycling and mountain biking since the 90s confirm the outstanding quality of Trek bikes. But what is so special about the famous bikes and where are Trek bikes now made?
Over 40 Years of Trek: A Success Story
The world-famous bicycle manufacturer in the US was founded in 1976 by Dick Burke and Bevil Hogg in a barn in Waterloo. Both had the vision of producing unique bicycles by hand. They started production with just five employees and were able to make more than 900 handcrafted touring frames in the first year.
Over the years, Trek has grown through the acquisition of several small companies such as Gary Fisher, Klein, Bontrager, Villiger, and Germany’s oldest bicycle company, Diamant, leading the brand to even greater renown and success.
In 1992, Trek was the first company in the world to start series production of a high-quality carbon frame, which meant an absolute revolution in the bicycle world at the time.
In the four decades of company history, the brand has always been careful to reconcile progress and innovative products with the initial founding principles. This philosophy is the basic structure of the success story. Here you will find an overview of all important company data:

Trek bikes stand for social responsibility
Supporting local initiatives and aid programs is very important to the US company. Trek is therefore a link between the cycling movement and the goal of better cycling infrastructure around the world. Various organizations are supported through numerous fundraising initiatives and donation programs. Which includes:
- PeopleForBikes
- World Bicycle Relief
- International Mountain Bike Association (IMBA)
As a founding member of the PeopleForBikes organization, the brand particularly stands for social responsibility.
For every Trek full suspension mountain bike sold, $10 will be donated to IMBA.
What technologies make Trek bikes so unique?
What is actually under the paint on your bike? The handcrafted Trek bikes are designed using special fluid dynamics software to produce particularly high-performance profiles. Featuring advanced materials like Alpha Aluminum and OCLV Carbon, the bikes are always completely handcrafted, which is what makes them so unique.
Alpha Aluminum
Over the years, cyclists and hobby cyclists have established a reputation for the high rigidity of aluminum frames, which is a thing of the past with the innovative Alpha Aluminum. Consistent further development finally brought the engineers to a lighter and yet firm aluminum frame, which significantly improved handling.
During construction, the main focus is on building a more flexible frame that still does not suffer any losses in terms of acceleration. In addition, the frames made of Alpha Aluminum are extremely inexpensive and have other advantages:
- Frame can be stiffened where necessary
- In other places, compliance can be increased
- Increased comfort and driving pleasure
In order to manufacture the aluminum frames, the tube materials must first be formed into the desired profile and cannot simply be cast into shape. Despite the more complicated manufacturing processes, Trek does not give up on the production of the aluminum frames but is always looking for new methods to achieve optimal results.
OCLV Carbon
With the first mass-produced carbon frame, Trek has set a milestone in the bicycle world. A patented carbon fiber process is now being used, which ensures the frame is extremely strong and rigid.
The OCLV carbon is laid in multiple layers and compressed with a specific fiber-to-resin ratio to provide the desired strength. The potential cavities in the production of a carbon frame are also avoided with the “Low Void” carbon. The material also offers you other advantages:
- Very lightweight
- Freedom in the areas of form and design
- Excellent aerodynamics
- No welds
Also worth mentioning is the possible lifetime warranty on all Trek carbon bikes.
The product range of the popular Trek bikes
The American manufacturer covers all areas of cycling with a wide range of products, ranging from leisure bikes to mountain bikes and professional racing bikes. Among them are also bicycles of the categories:
